Award winning author Dr. Bonnie Eaker Weil, PhD announces a new Facebook Contest to help couples understand how to have stronger relationships by having a chance to win her award winning book. Dr. Weil’s book Make Up Don’t Break Up with accompanying DVD Falling in Love and Staying in Love offers essential tips on how to make relationships stronger and helps couples stay together instead of breaking up.
Make Up Don’t Break Up won the NY Times Reader’s Choice Award for best dating book 2011.
“By teaching the dynamics of “Distancers” and “Pursuers” in the book, I help couples understand a misunderstood but common relationship scenario. Distancers most often choose Pursuers and vice versa. When people realize that their partner is either a ‘Distancer’ or a ‘Pursuer’ and learn what that means, they will stop taking their partner’s behaviors personally, which creates defensiveness, stonewalling and fear. I help them learn to work within the framework of each other’s personality style,” Dr. Bonnie explains.
A recent study revealed that couples could be staying together for various reasons besides contentment. Financial difficulties, family obligations or religious traditions are some of the causes for delaying a break up. However, surveys reveal that although more couples are opting to stay together, they are also straying.
“Partners who start down the slippery slope of the newest pastime of online flirting, and sexting are headed for trouble. It is only a matter of time until the relationship deteriorates beyond help. If couples choose to stay together, they owe each other the chance to grow together in intimacy. Cheating is a Band Aid that never ends up well. Tools and techniques in my book like the ‘Smart Heart Dialogue’ keeps couples civil while developing empathy, respect and intimacy,” Dr. Bonnie explains.
“I have created this contest to help bring awareness that there is another way to get along, grow into a mature relationship, and learn skills people are not taught in school nor in most families of origin,” Dr. Bonnie adds.
Entry rules for the Facebook contest include becoming a fan of the Make Up Don’t Break Up Facebook Page (http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Make-Up-Dont-Break-Up/166335959454).
