Austin, TX (PRWEB) August 12, 2011
It’s a philanthropic partnership that clicked informally several years ago – and is now about to be taken to a whole new level. U.S. Money Reserve founder and philanthropist Milton Verret has hired former KVUE broadcast journalist Olga Campos to help lead his charitable efforts for children.
“Milton Verret is a successful businessman who cares about children, especially those facing serious medical challenges,” said Campos. “I am honored to offer my experience as a journalist, my contacts in the community and my personal desire to help improve the lives of youngsters and their families as they face serious medical situations. Milton has the vision, and I’m here to help that vision become a reality.”
“Olga has done an incredible job over the years both reporting on our efforts and other local charities making a difference,” said Verret. “Her ability to connect with the community and gain support for local charities is invaluable. She will be a tremendous asset as we expand our philanthropic efforts for children.”
Campos first interviewed Verret about five years ago when he bid on giant guitars decorated by various local celebrities as part of the Austin Guitartown Project. He turned around and donated them back to the City of Austin. She also covered Milton’s efforts to grant 60 wishes to area youngsters selected through the Make a Wish Foundation of Central Texas last year.
Verret is now riding a herd of cows through the Capitol City as a major underwriter of the upcoming “CowParade Austin” campaign. The brightly painted bovines are on display around town and will be auctioned off to the highest bidder on October 30th. Campos’ first project will be to manage efforts with “CowParade Austin,” which benefits the Superhero Kids Fund of the Children’s Blood and Cancer Center at Dell Children’s Medical Center.
After 16 years behind the news anchor desk, Campos recently announced her retirement from KVUE. One of her final news assignments was at Milton’s request. He granted her exclusive access to the unveiling at Dell Children’s Hospital of pop legend Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” jacket. The iconic red and black leather outfit promises to be the centerpiece of Verret’s future philanthropic efforts benefiting children’s charities.
Verret added, “When I bought the Michael Jackson jacket in June, it was purchased with the promise of continuing Michael’s quest for helping children.” The first event with the jacket raised thousands of dollars for children at the CowParade preview party and with Campos’ help, will be part of ongoing efforts to raise money for children’s charities around the world.
