Everything about these homes is designed with ‘smart’ in mind. We are creating two modern homes that provide exciting ideas for you to take away and make your own.
Menlo Park, CA (PRWEB) August 17, 2011
Sunset magazine (http://www.sunset.com), the premier guide to life in the West, has broken ground on the Sunset Smart Homes (http://www.sunset.com/smarthomes), which are being built from the ground up in Palo Alto to highlight the best in sustainable and beautiful design with the latest in home technology and automation.
Featuring residential units on the second floor and commercial space on the ground level, the two 1500 sq. ft. town homes will be part of the greenest mixed-use development in Silicon Valley. The Smart Homes are located in Palo Alto’s Pedestrian Transit Oriented District (PTOD), which was established to provide a walkable lifestyle with access to mass transit and groceries, restaurants and services.
Each home is being created with two distinct home-owner profiles in mind:
One home is designed for the young, on-the-go family. “The Optimists," as we call them, are on the cutting-edge of all things high-tech. Technologies will be blended seamlessly into their home (security, TV, music, temperature, lighting control, etc.) and all are operable from their mobile devices, anywhere, any time.
Next door to “The Optimists,” live “The Explorers.” These jet-setting tastemakers have left the work world behind and now spend their time exploring their passions: entertaining, travel and wine. Their home is filled with eclectic finds from their journeys and is the place to be for weekend dinner parties and wine pairings. They use technology to safeguard their home and track energy consumption, as well as for digital media such as streaming music and movies.
“Everything about these homes is designed with ‘smart’ in mind: from design and technology to energy efficiencies, location, and even furniture choices,” said Katie Tamony, Sunset editor-in-chief. “We are creating two modern homes that provide exciting ideas for you to take away and make your own.”
The Sunset Smart Homes will be completed in approximately 8 weeks, and a week-by-week chronicle of the process is available online at http://www.sunset.com/smarthomes. Log on to learn about the “smart” technologies that will be integrated into each living space, or visit the “Ask Us” section to discover expert advice on smart design and construction questions. Visitors also have the chance to win $5000 and a Sonos wireless music system by entering the Sunset Smart Homes Sweepstakes.
