Nonprofit Debt Relief Counseling and Education
We teach the fundamentals of good credit.

Debt Management Credit Counseling Corp (dmcconline.org), a nonprofit charitable organization (“DMCC”), announced today they are currently scheduling free financial literacy seminars for students in South Florida high schools and colleges for the 2011/2012 school year. DMCC speakers travel to each school location to support the faculty in their efforts to teach students how the financial decisions they make today can really affect their future. DMCC speakers pack a fun and interesting presentation for their audience while disseminating materials to support their lessons. Lesson topics include the importance of credit, how credit works, credit cards, budgeting, the formulation of credit reports and credit scores. DMCC is able to cater seminar topics based upon request.

In addition to their seminars, DMCC also offers students a free financial literacy program entitled "Debt, Money & Credit Concepts." This proprietary self-study course contains 12 separate lessons featuring financial topics encountered on a daily basis and information to help students better their own finances. The program is available online or in a printed workbook. Once all students in a class complete all 12 modules, DMCC can arrange a visit to the school to present the certificates of completion to each student. Read more about this program.

“Teachers count on us to speak to their students and teach them certain financial topics, so they include us in their curriculum,” said Jason Athas, Manager of Special Programs at DMCC. High schools seniors are prime target because many of them are just turning of age to obtain credit. Making sure they know how to handle that responsibility is critical for their future. College students are also just as important as an audience because many of them are actually living their financial lessons. How a college student uses credit, can make or break their financial future. “We teach the fundamentals of good credit while some college students have learned from their short experience with credit cards. We are here to make sure they understand about credit from the start.”

DMCC has been offering this program to South Florida schools since 2001 as part of its charitable mission. Educators in high schools and colleges across South Florida are encouraged to take advantage of this free service. To schedule a seminar or workshop, contact the Education Department by calling 954-418-1466 or send an email to education(at)dmcconline(dot)org.
