TheBestSongs.net Unveils Surprising New Trend for Funeral Songs

Share Article

It may sound morbid to some, but according to one of the leading Funeral-song download sites, more people are downloading "happy and celebratory" songs than "sad and reflective" songs. Could this mean that families are choosing to celebrate life, rather than mourn death at funerals?

If song downloads are any indication of social trends, then the statistics from TheBestSongs.net, one of the top internet sites for funeral song downloads , is rather surprising. Almost twice as many people download uplifting songs than sad songs.

This is an interesting statistic that could be an indication of society's changing values, or simply reflective of the type of audience that visits song sites on the internet. "We had not kept track of the individual songs that people were downloading, but when we gathered this data, we were really shocked" said Alec Shaker, Editor of the website. He said, "We think people are just choosing to celebrate the lives of their loved ones rather than simply mourn their deaths."

He qualifies the statistic by pointing out that, not surprisingly, these uplifting song downloads are usually for older people that have passed away such as parents and spouses of seniors. They are NOT being downloaded for tragic deaths or the passing of young individuals. Some may find comfort in that.

When Shaker asked a random set of people why they were downloading such songs, here a few of the responses he got: From a 45 year old daughter who lost her father, "HEARTBREAK HOTEL was our favorite (Elvis) Presley song, it reminds me of our good times" - From an 89 year old widow who lost her husband, "(Sinatra's) MY WAY fit the lifestyle that my husband led throughout his life, I was not always thrilled...but it was fitting," And from a son who lost his father,"We had to play (Eric Idle's) ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE - I had never seen Dad laugh so hard watching a movie (Life of Brian)."

Shaker is keeping meticulous records to find out whether this is truly a trend over time, or just an indication of the audience that happens to surf over to his website, http://www.thebestsongs.net ...In the meantime, he plans to add plenty more uplifting and celebratory songs in the Funerals section of his website, in order to cater to the demands of his audience.
