During treatment, feeling some sense of normalcy is important for each member of the family. Even something simple like watching cable TV in the Philadelphia facility where they live while their loved one receives treatment can make a difference.
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) September 27, 2011
Philadelphia cable TV company RCN has partnered with the HEADstrong Foundation to assist those fighting blood cancers. The telecommunications company will provide complimentary cable television service to the Philadelphia-based Nick’s House, the HEADstrong foundation’s facility that houses families of blood cancer patients who are seeking treatment in the area. This service is effective immediately.
Founded in 2005 by Nicholas Colleluroi, a college student and young cancer patient, the HEADstrong Foundation is a non-profit organization headquartered in Pennsylvania dedicated to fighting and finding cures for all blood cancers. While Nicholas lost his fight with cancer in 2006, HEADstrong has continued its mission, helping patients and their families receive the treatment and support.
A cancer diagnosis obviously affects patients both mentally and physically, but it is also important to recognize that it affects the family of the patient. During treatment, feeling some sense of normalcy is important for each member of the family. Even something simple like watching cable TV in the Philadelphia facility where they live while their loved one receives treatment can make a difference.
Philadelphia wireless Internet, landline and digital cable company RCN recognizes this need and has taken steps to make a difference for patients’ families. RCN Vice President and General Manager Sanford Ames, Jr. explains: “RCN is pleased to support the efforts of the HEADstrong Foundation by supplying complimentary cable service to ‘Nick’s House.’ For families spending their entire day in a hospital, having a place to go with all the comforts of home is important. They can turn on the television and escape the day at least momentarily.”
When blood cancer patients are in the Delaware County area seeking cancer treatment to fight the disease, RCN Philadelphia provides cable TV service to their families free of charge within the Nick’s House facility in which they are staying. From news and sports to movies and wholesome family programming, a full lineup of digital cable channels is available through this program. Well known in Delaware County and Philadelphia for their high-speed Internet and cable television services, RCN’s all-digital, fiber-optic network will provide reliable entertainment and information for these families when they most need a bit of diversion.
The decision to offer cable television was an easy one. Via WIFI connections all over the city, Philadelphia Internet service is ubiquitous. Cable television service, as well as the viewer’s ability to control the available programming at any one time, isn’t as easy to find. Providing complimentary cable TV also made sense given the fact that the viewing experience is as important as the programming, lending some semblance of normalcy for patients’ families. High-speed internet in the same Philadelphia facility can’t offer the family atmosphere; it was that experience that mattered most to RCN through this endeavor. And, effective immediately, this service and experience is available.
For those in the Delaware County areas who need additional or enhanced telecommunications services outside the partnership between RCN and HEADstrong, RCN does offer expanded digital cable plans, broadband Internet services and home telephone. Philadelphia customers receive hundreds of digital channels, including free HD options, as well as premium packages, On Demand shows, commercial-free music and more. The provider’s Internet service in-and-around Philadelphia features options such as wireless home networking, online exclusives (ABC News Now, ESPN3 and Disney Connection) and webmail service. Home telephone service is also available and features voicemail, unlimited nationwide calling and affordable international long-distance plans.
