Newcastle Permanent Wins Australian Home Loan Lender of the Year

To be recognised as Australia’s leading home loan provider is especially pleasing as this is one of the few national awards where banks and mutual banking organisations compete on an open playing field

Newcastle Permanent Building Society has been recognised as Home Loan Lender of the Year at the Australian Financial Review Smart Investor Blue Ribbon Awards for 2011 for the second time in three years.

The prestigious award is open to all financial institutions including the major banks making the win much more significant for a regionally-based organisation.

Newcastle Permanent CEO Terry Millett said the award is an acknowledgment of the high quality home loan products and consistently competitive pricing delivered to Newcastle Permanent members.

“We were judged Home Lender of the Year following an independent assessment of our mortgage products across all categories by one of Australia’s leading financial services research firms, Info choice,” Mr Millett said.

“To be recognised as Australia’s leading home loan provider is especially pleasing as this is one of the few national awards where banks and mutual banking organisations compete on an open playing field."

“The reason we can offer such competitive home loans is that as a mutually owned organisation we are not aggressively focussed on shareholder returns and profits like listed banks. Newcastle Permanent is focused on delivering an appropriate profit, which is entirely retained in the business to provide highly competitive products and invest in the improvement of the business for the benefit of our members.

“Newcastle Permanent is the largest Building Society in NSW and is committed to being a genuine alternative to the traditional banks. Winning the Home Lender of the Year award for the second time reinforces that our ambition is achievable." Mr Millett said.

Newcastle Permanent was also the only organisation to win four awards including three additional awards, Building Society of the Year, best Premium Home Loan Package and best secured personal loan.

These awards echo the accolades from other parts of the financial industry who have this year recognised Newcastle Permanent’s home loans and other banking products and services as some of the best in the country.

Newcastle Permanent’s home loans have been recognised by Money Magazine, awarding the building society with the title of Cheapest Package Home Loan and Cheapest Flexible Home Loan in the non-bank category of their Best of the Best Awards for 2011.

In addition, Newcastle Permanent’s Premium Plus Line of Credit Home Loan was awarded a gold medal for the second year in a row by Your Mortgage Magazine, indicating it is the best in its class.

As well as these awards, Newcastle Permanent is consistently recognised by Canstar Cannex as having a range of home loans that offer outstanding value, indicated by the number of five star ratings they regular receive each year.

Importantly these outstanding banking products are also backed by award winning service, as recognised in the recent Australian Teleservices Association (ATA) State Awards where Newcastle Permanent won the NSW Call Centre of the Year in the 50 FTE category.

CEO Terry Millett said the Call Centre is dedicated to providing excellence in its member support services.

"We now handle well over 400,000 calls a year and our average call answer time is still less than 20 seconds. This award is a testament to the commitment and dedication of our Call Centre staff.

"Our staff coaching, development processes and member service initiatives are just some of the ways that we enhance the member experience which is reflected in our exceptional member satisfaction ratings.

"Newcastle Permanent prides itself on accessibility for members with the Call Centre, which we call our Member Support Centre, open seven days a week. In addition local branches are also open on Saturday mornings for the convenience and benefit of members," Mr. Millett said.

Other finalists in the NSW Call Centre of the Year category included BT Financial and Macquarie Telecom. The Newcastle Permanent Call Centre team will now go onto the ATA National Awards in September!

Our hard work and commitment has certainly paid off!
