Web entrepreneur Cynthia Wongngamnit is pleased to debut her latest business venture, The site, launched in June 2011, boasts a large supply of consumer items ranging from books to electronics to home goods, but with a special focus on Gifts with Humanity.

“For 17 years I lived in Bangkok, Thailand,” said Wongngamnit. “During that time I was a member of the American Women’s Club and voluntarily worked all year long making handicrafts to sell which benefited indigent communities in Thailand. There were also programs sponsored by the King of Thailand which provided funding and training to indigent communities and many of the people in these communities were taught needlepoint and other crafts. Once a year, right before Christmas, all the finished products from the villages were brought to Bangkok so the artisans could sell them and all the items made by the members of the American Women’s Club were sold as well. Villagers used the sale proceeds to better their lives and to continue earning a sustainable income with their craft.”

Currently, the site features Gifts with Humanity fair trade crafts from Asia, Africa, North America, Central America, and South America. Accessorize with African earrings, bicycle pins, and bracelets adorned with hand painted glass beads or animal charms. Pair brightly colored Five Turn Bone bracelets from India with gorgeous silver earrings from Chile. When heading out for the day wrap up in a hand woven scarf from Guatemala, carry essentials in a Chichi tri-fold wallet or Shanzu cotton coin purse, and toss everything into an intricately embroidered Indian handbag or a colorful clutch made out of recycled candy and gum wrappers from Mexico.

“Purchasing any of these items helps artisans in indigent communities to continue earning a sustainable income,” said Wongngamnit. “Fair trade product makers are paid a fair wage so they can compete in today’s global market, thereby allowing them to continue their income-producing craft, which provides the artisans with a sustainable income enabling them to meet their basic human needs plus provide for a better life.”
