The Patterson Foundation supports Arthritis Foundation Florida Chapter with gift, seeds endowment fund

As we honor Dorothy’s legacy through this initiative, we also strive to inspire philanthropy and generosity that will help the Arthritis Foundation Florida Chapter achieve greater impact.

The Patterson Foundation announced today that it has awarded a $400,000 gift to the Arthritis Foundation Florida Chapter based on matching funds issued for the organization’s 2010 Jingle Bell Run/Walk series. The gift will seed an endowment fund that will support the fight against arthritis within Florida.

“We are extremely grateful to The Patterson Foundation for partnering with the Arthritis Foundation and for this generous gift,” said Anne Fair Forrest, president and CEO of the Arthritis Foundation Florida Chapter. “This contribution greatly enhances our efforts to achieve our mission.”

According to Forrest, one in three Floridians is impacted by arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation Florida Chapter supports vital research and education programs designed to improve the quality of life for these individuals and their families.

Because The Patterson Foundation’s benefactor, Dorothy Patterson, lived with rheumatoid arthritis for many years, arthritis was selected as one of its initiatives to honor the family legacy.

“As we honor Dorothy’s legacy through this initiative, we also strive to inspire philanthropy and generosity that will help the Arthritis Foundation Florida Chapter achieve greater impact,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “We hope this gift will maximize the financial thrivability of the foundation to help them create new realities in the fight against arthritis.”

Last year, The Patterson Foundation partnered with the Arthritis Foundation Florida Chapter and offered a matching challenge for the organization’s 2010 Jingle Bell Run/Walk events in the state. Through the challenge, the final amount raised was more than $700,000 – a 316-percent increase over 2009.
