Play Dress Up® has expanded its brand with the launch of No.2, an innovative new line that will drastically change the way women shop for skirts. Based on the concept of creating the perfect pencil skirt, No.2 is the brainchild of Los Angeles-based designer and business owner, Kristen O’Connell, 29.

The No. 2 website puts the customer in charge of making the ideal skirt, down to the last detail. The site asks the customer to enter her measurements and, via the Design Studio, guides her through selecting a style, fabric and various options, then provides a preview of the unique skirt design. From there, the fabric is cut, assembled and shipped to the customer. No matter which options are selected, the skirt costs $88 and takes about three weeks to arrive.

O’Connell was inspired to found No.2 while working on the retail side of the business as she put herself through design school. “The things customers wanted didn’t fit and the things that fit they didn’t want,” she says. O’Connell recognized the need for a company that helps customers find exactly what they want – by being able to design it themselves.

Navigating the No.2 website is easy and fun. The Measure Yourself page plays an instructional video that teaches how to obtain accurate body measurements. The step-by-step Design Studio allows users to create unique skirts they’ll love to wear.

The ever-growing selection of fabric means customers can have skirts in every color. After all, these skirts actually fit! Additionally, the customer is given the option to select a lining. If yes is selected, this part remains a surprise, as O’Connell chooses a special contrast fabric to line the skirt based on her design aesthetic and pulled from her immense fabric library.

O’Connell also encourages customers to contact her if they have any questions. She will walk them through taking measurements or talk to them about the care of the skirt. This hands-on approach to customer service coupled with creativity, convenience and affordability sets the company apart.

O’Connell hails from Silver City, N.M. She has a degree in business management and marketing from New Mexico State University and is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles. O’Connell lives in Los Angeles.
