Kuala Lumpur will draw teams from throughout Asia for the finals and a cash prize of $30,000. Sport Court has been the playing surface of choice since the games were kicked off in Singapore last April.

Fast action play on Sport Court® continues to delight fans of the 2011 Tiger Street Football Tournament, with the championships being played here on Sept. 17-18 to determine which team is “King of the Streets.”

Both the Finals and Grand Finals will be played at Utami 1 in Kuala Lumpur.
Teams from throughout Asia have been competing in this fast-moving game on Sport Court’s SportGame™ surface.

Qualifying events began in Singapore then moved to Bangkok, Thailand, to Guangzhou, China, and then to Danang, Vietnam. The international tournament also brings teams from as far away as Brazil and Holland.

Sport Court is the surface of choice for the tournament, which kicked off with regional games in April in the Tiger Football Stadium in Singapore.

The competition is played on approximately 2,500 square feet of SportGame surface in Titanium color, in keeping with the “street theme” of the event.

“Sport Court surfaces—both indoor and outdoor—have been the only approved futsal surface by the Asian Football Confederation and have been the official AFC Futsal Championship floors since 2004,” said Ron Cerny, President and CEO of Connor Sport Court International, developers and manufacturers of the playing surfaces. The company is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.

“This is a very fast-moving game and requires a particularly responsive surface. Our SportGame met the specifications for this exciting form of street football,” said Ryan Burke, International Business Manager for Sport Court. “It allows these elite athletes to push their limits on a surface proven to be safe,” he added.

“Street football showcases for the first time a specially-designed football pitch and competition format,” said ESPN STAR Sports Vice President Harvey Davis. “It is basically soccer being played in a caged, hard-court pitch without side-lines. It makes for a continuous state of play and exciting action.”

“The competition is organized with the goal of elevating the level of play and passion for football on the streets of Singapore, as well as in China, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam—countries that will host subsequent legs of the inaugural competition,” said Elgen Kua, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, ESPN STAR Sports, broadcasters of the events. ESPN STAR Sports reaches over 300 million viewers in Asia.

Said Wong Mei Wai, Head of Marketing, Asia Pacific Breweries, Singapore, “Tiger Street Football affirms our commitment toward creating unforgettable experiences for fans here in Singapore and around the world. This will be an excellent opportunity for fans here to participate in and witness a new and exciting dimension to the sport. At the same time, fans will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the event and be part of the fun-filled weekend.”

Winners in each round are awarded cash prizes, with $30,000 going to the winner of the finals.
