Perler launches today an online application that allows users to convert their favorite photos into Perler templates. Called Perler Snapshots, this free program allows children (and adults) ages 6 and up to recreate and customize pictures into incredibly realistic fused-bead artwork.
To use, simply upload a photo to PerlerSnapshots.com, or choose from hundreds of images in the Perler gallery. The program will automatically populate the most closely matched colors, which the user can customize online before printing. The printed image can be put under a clear Perler super-size or interlocking pegboard to help guide bead placement. When finished, just as with other Perler designs, an adult places the protective paper on top of the design and uses an iron to fuse the beads. The artwork can be lifted off the pegboard when it has cooled and is ready to be displayed.
Users can visit perler.com to buy supplies and follow a link to watch easy step-by-step instructions in the how-to video. When purchasing Perler products in stores, shoppers with smartphones can access the same video by scanning the QR code on Perler signs.
