Making the Inc. 500 list is another chapter in the remarkable story of Armando Montelongo, who came home to San Antonio in 2001 with no money and no job, and 10 years later is running a series of companies with more than $47 million in revenues.

Our growth really reveals the opportunities for people in any real estate market, once they have the tools to understand what it takes to generate success.

The video camera was running when Armando Montelongo opened the letter from Inc. magazine.

“Dear Armando Montelongo: On behalf of Inc. magazine, I am happy to inform you…” the real estate entrepreneur read to his assembled employee team.

He paused for a moment, overwhelmed at the news he was seeing for the first time, then continued.

“…that the Armando Montelongo Company has earned the position of 19th in the Inc. 500.”
Cheers filled the room as Montelongo fought back tears of joy.

Making the Inc. 500 list of the nation’s fastest-growing companies for the first time was enough of an honor. Being the top-rated company in the field of education was a bonus. But ranking in the top 20 was more than Montelongo – or anyone at the 5-year-old company – expected.

It’s just the latest triumph, though, for a man who in 2001 moved back to his hometown of San Antonio broke and $50,000 in debt.

In that time, Armando has built a highly successful real estate investment business. That success led to Armando becoming the star of the A&E cable show Flip This House. Passionate about helping others overcome the same challenges he once faced, Montelongo launched a series of educational seminars, spreading his knowledge and expertise from coast to coast. His company has sponsored cars with up and coming superstars at the last two Indy 500 races. And Armando has started a production company which is now producing a feature film, Mission Park, currently filming in San Antonio. His story is detailed on the company website.

“Our growth really reveals the opportunities for people in any real estate market, once they have the tools to understand what it takes to generate success,” he said. “We look forward to continuing to provide people who are interested in real estate investment and have the passion to work towards their dreams with the knowledge and proven strategies that can help make those dreams reality.”

The statistic that landed the Armando Montelongo Companies on the prestigious list is nothing short of amazing: From 2007-10, revenues grew from $570,338 to $47.1 million, an increase of 8,161 percent. That revenue total for 2010 is $37.2 million more than the second-ranked educational company on the Inc. 500 list.

The core of the company, the real estate investing seminars, range from free preview events to three-day seminars to local hands-on weekend events.

The company also offers the Armando Montelongo VIP Bus Tour, which gives students hands-on in-the-field coaching on flipping houses in today’s market. The three-day event compresses decades into days for students, during which Armando personally shares his experience, knowledge and formula-based systems.

Montelongo also provided some insight into the company in a feature on the Inc. 500 website. His philosophy as a CEO is to make sure employees’ “instant gratification” comes from within the company, with surprise parties, events and contests.

"Even though they have a great time, our employees tend to be much more focused, which is why we continue to more than double the size of our company," he says.

Some of that philosophy is evident on the Armando Montelongo YouTube channel – as is a video highlighting the company’s business ventures – and the scene of Montelongo opening the announcement from Inc. magazine.
