Whether or not one is interested in genealogy, everyone has ancestors, and those ancestors contributed in some way to history. The Linden Tree Legacy (published by AuthorHouse), by author B.F. Knudson, is a historically-based novel inspired by her own parents’ stories.
“The new friends stood together as they entered New York harbor, cheering loudly with their fellow passengers as they passed the Statue of Liberty. Young, healthy, and with their papers in order, they easily passed all the Ellis Island tests and entered the city of New York through Battery Park. Frank gave his brother’s address to Anton, hoping to keep in touch. After saying goodbye, Anton dragged his steamer trunk to the nearest train station and bought a ticket to Cleveland.”
Louiza, Anton, Frank and Rose all came to America to work and have a better life. Frank becomes a coal miner, and he and his family have difficult and painful experiences. Anton becomes a blacksmith, before the memories of his childhood drive him into alcoholism. It is the two families’ children that truly begin to live the American Dream.
When Ivan, Louiza and Anton’s son, marries Beth, the oldest daughter of Frank and Rose, the two families are joined by more than friendship. Together, they face the difficulties of Prohibition and the scourge of the Great Depression and the horror of World War II.
