Ed Royce for Congress is reporting that Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley today endorsed Rep. Royce in the newly drawn 39th congressional district. The district includes Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino counties. Cooley is the very popular elected District Attorney in the most populous county in the United States. Ed Royce is the only candidate Cooley is supporting in the 39th district.
In making his endorsement, Cooley noted Royce’s “proven track record” in Congress. “I have had the privilege of working closely with District Attorney Cooley over the years on issues directly impacting the safety of citizens in Southern California, and I am honored to have his endorsement,” said Royce.
Rep. Ed Royce has been an outspoken champion for victim’s rights and tough laws against crime. As a State Senator he wrote the nation’s first anti-stalking law and passed a statewide Proposition, the Speedy Trial Act, which gave victims new rights in California’s courtrooms. In Congress, Royce co-authored the nationwide Amber Alert law and wrote the first nationwide law punishing stalkers who persue their victims across state lines.
Cooley joins Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca and numerous leading local officials in supporting Royce, including Los Angeles County Supervisors Mike Antonovich and Don Knabe and Orange County Supervisors Pat Bates, Bill Campbell, John Moorlach, Shawn Nelson, and Janet Nguyen. All endorsements are for the new campaign in the 39th district.
