Blockbuster interview with Rich Gaspari, a top Mr. Olympia contender from the ’80s and ’90s in the October 2011 issue of Iron Man Magazine. The Dragon Slayer has loads of new- and old-school advice to get you big and sliced. And his physique is still unreal and peeled in his 40s.

After a trip to Venice, California, to accept a lifetime achievement award, Rich Gaspari, age 48, suddenly had a fire of passion ignite deep down. The competitive atmosphere at the local California gyms can trigger a feeling of unfinished business for any bodybuilder and even more so for an elite pro like Gaspari. Any retired athlete knows the itch never quite goes away. Maybe it’s the fear that father time is nipping at your heels or the feeling that business was left undone.

Being back in Venice to represent his brand, Gaspari Nutrition (, Rich started seriously thinking about getting back into top shape. The competitive fire never died. In fact, it’s still as strong as ever. For “The Dragon Slayer,” that desire became way too strong to ignore.

It’s no longer about trophies and medals. Now it’s an inner drive for achievement. The first thing Rich did was make a public announcement of his intention to get into top shape for a cover photo shoot with Iron Man magazine’s renowned photographer and co-owner, Michael Neveux. That fueled Rich’s fire, since his reputation was now on the line. He set out to prove that age is not a barrier to getting in top shape.

Of course, Gaspari’s comeback was not a surprise to those who know him. For more than 30 years, he had a notorious reputation for workouts so brutal they were legendary. What’s more, his success as a competitor was attributed to a scientific and meticulous approach to diet and training. Rich overcame competitors who were structurally more gifted yet simply didn’t have his heart, passion and capacity to endure pain.

In Rich’s words: “I wanted this comeback to prove that you can get into top shape at any age and because I recognize that I am the face of my brand.” Over the past 13 years, Rich has developed a brand of supplements that carry his name. It’s one of the most formidable and best loved sport supplement brands in the world. His determination and love for the sport has seen a successful transition from his days as a competitive bodybuilder, now evident in his unyielding passion as an active CEO touring the globe as an inspiration of the fitness lifestyle to others. The brand now extends internationally to 85 countries.
