"Downtown Detroit is becoming an exciting and vibrant live, work and play urban core with Campus Martius Park at the center of its resurgence," said Dan Gilbert, founder and chairman of Quicken Loans.
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) September 09, 2011
Campus Martius Park, often referred to as “Detroit’s Gathering Place,” will add a new games pavilion to its growing list of amenities. Sponsored by Quicken Loans Inc., the outdoor games and activities are now open and free for everyone.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come out and have fun, enjoy free activities and socialize,” said Robert Gregory, president of Detroit 300 Conservancy, the organization that manages Campus Martius Park. “Thanks to the generosity of Quicken Loans, people visiting the park can now enjoy popular pastimes amid the beauty of Campus Martius Park.”
The games pavilion featuring bocce ball, chess, checkers, backgammon, table tennis, bean bag and washer toss, will encourage park-goers to linger, relax and enjoy the nationally award-winning park developed and dedicated to bringing people together. The no-cost outdoor games located in the North Lawn and gardens, are available Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will conclude on Oct. 14 (weather permitting). Equipment is available at the Inside Detroit kiosk, located in the Northeast Garden, with valid identification.
As part of Quicken Loans’ “Detroit 2.0” initiative to transform downtown Detroit into an Internet and technology hub, Campus Martius Park continues to become even more of a “work and play” hub and a true centerpiece of downtown and metro Detroit. Last summer, Quicken Loans moved 1,700 team members to downtown Detroit, to their new headquarters in the Compuware Building overlooking Campus Martius Park. This fall, an additional 2,000 team members will relocate to Quicken Loans’ other buildings surrounding the park.
"Downtown Detroit is becoming an exciting and vibrant live, work and play urban core with Campus Martius Park at the center of its resurgence," said Dan Gilbert, founder and chairman of Quicken Loans. "You can feel the energy in the park, where people already gather to talk business, eat lunch and hang out. We are looking forward to helping create even more fun, and attracting even more people to the heart of the Detroit 2.0 movement.”
