We're taking the short film out of the hands of the arthouse crowd, the die-hard festival goers, the industry people, and exposing it to a wider audience.

As part of its year-long celebration of independent filmmaking, ONECLOUDFEST is releasing a new Fall roster of short films -- including narratives, documentaries, animations, and music videos -- exclusively via the festival's Facebook page. This Fall phase of its annual competition will begin on Saturday, September 10th.
Launched in June 2011, ONECLOUDFEST has already gained a considerable following, garnering a significant amount of views and community activity, including more than 1,000 Facebook fans, in its first few months of existence. ONECLOUDFEST is beginning to earn a reputation as a new and cutting-edge platform for the independent filmmaker, a platform that fully harnesses the power of social media.
While still exercising the sort of discretion and editorial control that result in high-quality content, ONECLOUDFEST offers distinct advantages that set it apart from conventional festival formats. The filmmaker's work is introduced to a global audience through Facebook, a platform which boasts over 750 million active users. By not confining viewable content to a single city or theater, ONECLOUDFEST increases exposure for emerging filmmakers exponentially. In terms of audience, anyone with a Facebook account can visit the festival's Facebook page, view films in their entirety in just a couple of clicks, and easily share films with friends, when and where they choose. Additionally, as is appropriate to ONECLOUDFEST’s open forum and inclusive philosophy, all films may be viewed for free and without obligation, another enticing difference from costly "event" festivals.
Judging is another fresh aspect to ONECLOUDFEST. In true Facebook form, winners in each category will be decided according to the number of "likes" viewers have given the films, providing an immediate and tangible reason for viewers to visit and see where their favorite films stand.
But perhaps the most important element of ONECLOUDFEST's innovative organization is the opportunity for active social media engagement. "Our ability to use social media in an entirely new way is the unique thing about ONECLOUDFEST," said Sy Smensgård, who together with her husband and partner Jonas Smensgård is the creative force behind ONECLOUDFEST. "No other film festival has done this for the short film, a format which is often underserved and underrepresented. By maximizing the community engagement made possible by social media, we in turn maximize exposure for these worthy films."
"ONECLOUDFEST is a way to get people excited," said Jonas Smensgård, "by making it easy to view films, by facilitating the sharing of films between friends, and by fostering interactions between casual viewers and film aficionados. We're taking the short film out of the hands of the arthouse crowd, the die-hard festival goers, the industry people, and exposing it to a wider audience. And as ONECLOUDFEST continues to develop, we anticipate that a much, much wider audience will discover the value of the short film."
As ONECLOUDFEST builds momentum for its September 10th premiere and beyond, the company continues to seek out sponsors for select promotional opportunities.
