Festival is First Virtual Film Festival to Harness the Power of Facebook

We're taking the short film out of the hands of the arthouse crowd, the die-hard festival goers, the industry people, and exposing it to a wider audience.

As part of its year-long celebration of independent filmmaking, ONECLOUDFEST is releasing a new Fall roster of short films -- including narratives, documentaries, animations, and music videos -- exclusively via the festival's Facebook page. This Fall phase of its annual competition will begin on Saturday, September 10th.

Launched in June 2011, ONECLOUDFEST has already gained a considerable following, garnering a significant amount of views and community activity, including more than 1,000 Facebook fans, in its first few months of existence. ONECLOUDFEST is beginning to earn a reputation as a new and cutting-edge platform for the independent filmmaker, a platform that fully harnesses the power of social media.

While still exercising the sort of discretion and editorial control that result in high-quality content, ONECLOUDFEST offers distinct advantages that set it apart from conventional festival formats. The filmmaker's work is introduced to a global audience through Facebook, a platform which boasts over 750 million active users. By not confining viewable content to a single city or theater, ONECLOUDFEST increases exposure for emerging filmmakers exponentially. Judging is another fresh aspect to ONECLOUDFEST. In true Facebook form, winners in each category will be decided according to the number of "likes" viewers have given the films, providing an immediate and tangible reason for viewers to visit and see where their favorite films stand.
