Signtronix Survey Results Indicate Signs Are Leading Method for Customer Generation

Signtronix, a national sign company that’s been in business since 1959, announced the results of a survey they conducted to determine how small businesses market their business and generate visitors into their establishments. According to the survey, 46% of customers came in to the business and purchased their goods or services because of the sign in front of the business.

Signtronix, a national sign company that’s been in business since 1959, announced the results of a survey they conducted to determine how small businesses market their business and generate visitors into their establishments. According to the survey, 46% of customers came in to the business and purchased their goods or services because of the sign in front of the business.

Over 800 small businesses across the United States asked over 12,000 customers one question: “How did you hear about us?” The overwhelming answer to this question was they came in because of the sign in front of the business (46% of respondents). “Word of mouth” was the second most popular response (37% of respondents) and newspaper was a distant 3rd place (8% of respondents).

“Being in business for over 50 years and talking to thousands of our customers we knew our signs were effective and really worked for them,” said Tom Johnson Jr., Director of Marketing for Signtronix, “but these survey results really proved what we’ve been telling people for years. A sign is one of the most important marketing and advertising tools you can have for your business.”

“Along with the survey results many of the small business owners wrote down some of the comments from the customers they surveyed. Some of the examples include: “I’ve been here for 20 years and didn’t know you were here until you put up that sign” or “I drove by here every day, two or three times a day and never knew what you did!” or “You’ve been here for HOW long? I though you just opened your doors!” (when the business has been at the same location for over ten years).”

“Many of the small business owners involved in the survey were surprised at the results, thinking Word of Mouth or Newspaper would be their #1 methods to get people in their businesses.” said Johnson. “They didn’t realize just how important their sign was to their business.”
