Award-winning Southern California Coffee Roaster, Klatch Coffee will host an elite Geisha cupping event, Saturday, September 17, 2011, with a live roasting demonstration.

Klatch Coffee has announced a special coffee cupping event on Saturday, September 17, at 10 am. The event will be held in Klatch Roasting and Training facility in Upland, and will feature the world–renowned Geisha varietal coffees from Panama, as well as, a live roasting exhibition. Admission is $25 per person.

Klatch Green Coffee Buyer, Mike Perry, who was a International Judge earlier this year for the Best of Panama (BOP) cupping competition, was able to source not one but the top three Geishas from Panama through auction and direct trade relationships with producers.

Cupping will include the most famous Esmeralda Geisha from the lot near Mario’s house at Hacienda Esmeralda. This Geisha has set many world records at auction and won many competitions. This year at the BOP, Aristar Geisha triumph Esmeralda for first place. Similar in taste with the traditional sugar cane, jasmine, and tea like qualities, the Aristar adds more stonefruit to the palete. Aristar is also the coffee used by Barista Champion, Heather Perry, to win the Ultimate Barista ‘Best of Brew’ Competition, last month. The highlight of Klatch's cupping session will be a natural processed Geisha from Don Pachi, that sold for $111 per pound at this year’s BOP.

During the cupping session, Klatch Roastmaster, Shane Soper and Barista Champion, Heather Perry, will introduce the basics of coffee cupping to better understand and stimulate cuppers senses. Tasters will also learn about the roasting process during Klatch's live roasting demonstration.

Space for the event is limited and admission is $25 per person. To register for the event, sign up at any Klatch retail location or email community@klatchroasting.com.

About Coffee Cupping

Coffee cupping is the practice of observing the tastes and aromas of brewed coffee. A standard coffee cupping procedure involves deeply sniffing the coffee, then loudly slurping the coffee so it spreads to the back of the tongue. The coffee taster attempts to measure aspects of the coffees taste, specifically the body, sweetness, acidity, flavor, and aftertaste.
