After all, President Obama’s own travel plans are far too important to be left to the Internet, noted Salih.
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) September 15, 2011
Today, Dallas’s Travel Leaders responded to a statement by President Barack Obama that seemed to question the very viability of America’s travel agents. Chaib Salih, President of the local Travel Leaders location at 6138 Berkshire Lane, Dallas, TX 75225, wrote a letter to President Obama, not only expressing surprise by his offhand remarks, but also setting the record straight about the flourishing state of the travel agency industry.
In response to a question on job opportunities during an Atkinson, Illinois town hall, President Obama answered, “One of the challenges in terms of rebuilding our economy is – businesses have gotten so efficient, that, when was the last time somebody went to a bank teller instead of using an ATM? Or used a travel agent instead of going online? A lot of jobs that used to require people now have become automated.”
Salih wrote to the President, “Certainly, the travel agency industry is vastly different than it was 10 or 15 years ago. If nothing, the hobbyists who were in it merely for the enjoyment of travel are largely gone, as are the days when many were simply order takers. Today’s marketplace comprises 15,000 thriving travel agencies with online presences that are devoted to saving consumers time and money in planning every aspect of their travels – well beyond just booking airline tickets. Together, we employ approximately 120,000 hardworking taxpayers with an annual payroll of $6.3 billion.”
Salih continued, “As the owner of my own travel management company, I’m very passionate about travel. But I also know how to run a profitable business that is proudly contributing to in Texas’s economy by employing several employees and by paying federal, state and local taxes. We take enormous pride in consistently offering our clients peace-of-mind through our vast expertise and knowledge. We counsel our clients on every component of each individual travel experience. In turn, our clients book with confidence knowing that we’re available to them from the moment they start planning their travels right up through the time they return home safely from their trip. They take comfort in knowing that should they experience any unforeseen circumstances along the way, they can contact us directly – something that no online player can provide efficiently.”
In describing his letter, Salih acknowledged that the President probably didn’t mean any intentional slight the travel agency industry. “After all, President Obama’s own travel plans are far too important to be left to the Internet,” noted Salih. “But given the tremendous weight the President’s words can carry, we asked him to provide a more balanced approach in the future by recognizing the enormous contributions travel agents continue to make to both our economy and to America’s travelers each and every day.”
