Simply by smiling at, and bonding with infants, parents can reduce violent crime, reduce prison populations, decrease drug addiction, increase high school graduation rates and decrease teenage pregnancy. Smile at Your Baby! believes that the most dangerous criminals never attached to a parent when they were a baby.

Babies attach in response to parents who bond with them. Most take bonding with infants and toddlers for granted. Some parents, however, have no idea how to bond with children or know why it’s important. “Receiving short, easy parenting tips sent on a daily basis to new parents via text message is like having a parenting coach right in your pocket," states Founder and Executive Director of Smile at Your Baby!, Shelley Calissendorff.

Major universities are calling for innovative solutions for reaching those parents who don’t, or can’t, bond with their children in the first three years of their child’s life. Calissendorff of Smile at Your Baby!, believes they have the answer. “Text messaging and social media have been used successfully by other social movements to reach thousands of new supporters. There’s no reason why these cutting edge approaches won't work to help create awareness around bonding and attachment,” says Calissendorff.
