The National Camp Series (NCS), a network of football kicking camps conducted by some of the top kicking coaches in the country, has launched the first ‘objective’ kicking rating system for high school athletes looking to get exposure to colleges and Universities.
According to NCS founder and President Michael Husted, a former National Football League (NFL) kicker, and current football kicking coach, the KIX rating system is a ‘game changer’ for college coaches, student-athletes, and their parents.
"We are offering the first objective high school kicker ‘ranking’ system of its kind in the kicking world,” says Husted. “The National Camp Series KIX Player Ratings System utilizes over six years of historical event data to determine a kickers rankings by cross-referencing player data to determine how the athletes stack up against others, both presently and historically.”
Husted says this means that in the KIX system, high school kickers are ranked solely on ‘statistics’ and not on personal opinion or prejudice.
According to Husted, one of the key benefits of this system will be to help college and University coaches determine what high school kickers should be getting college scholarships.
“With the cost of college tuition exponentially increasing, and therefore what it cost the schools to give scholarships increasing as well, it is important for college coaches to have accurate and valuable information when making scholarship decisions,” says Husted. “The KIX system will help them make a more informed decision."
Michael Husted says the KIX system is based on information gathered from NCS events which use a 100 point scale which correlates with percentile. Then, after an event is completed, each kicker’s information is entered into a computer data-base.
“The algorithm built into the KIX system crawls an athlete's official results from their events,” says Husted, “It gives ‘weight’ to their most recent events which in essence shows both a ‘historical’ trend and demonstrates their ‘current’ ability.”
Husted says by using both the historical and most current results of a kicker’s performance, the KIX system gives a ‘more complete’ picture of a kicker.
“It’s important to show a kickers’ most recent performance,” says Husted, adding “It’s also important to show a kicker's ‘trend’ as well.
Husted says the ‘ultimate’ validation of his NCS and KIX system comes when NFL Pros take notice and give it a ‘thumbs-up.’
Billy Cundiff, All Pro Kicker for the Baltimore Ravens said he ‘loves’ the National Camp Series format because it’s all about ‘performance.’
“So many high school specialists just don't get a chance to showcase their talents during a high school season,” says Cundiff. “However with the NCS, specialists have a place to show what they can do under pressure while getting expert instruction,” adding, “The NCS levels the recruiting playing field."
And now, with the KIX ranking system in place, the NCS makes the recruiting of high school kickers a more objective, visible and productive process.
