Enables on-site treatment and mitigation of Household Hazardous Waste for Property Preservation Contractors

Greenfield Servicing Solutions of Austin, TX, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Eco Absorbent Technologies of Ontario, CA, giving it exclusive rights to distribute Eco>Absorb and related products to the REO servicing industry. (REO is Real Estate Owned by banks, servicers and GSEs as the result of foreclosure.) Eco>Absorb allows property preservation contractors to safely deal with household hazardous waste (HHW) on-site, eliminating the need for special processing at a hazardous waste facility. The use of Eco>Absorb not only promotes the proper disposal of HHW, but also facilitates documentation of the mitigation process having occurred.

“The proper disposal of household hazardous waste is the elephant in the living room in the REO property preservation industry,” said Brian Browder, president of Greenfield Servicing Solutions. “Margins are so tight, volume and time pressures so great and regulations so complex, that the temptation for contractors to dispose of household hazardous waste improperly is very great and happens more often than we’d like to admit. Each month, nearly 100,000 homes revert to bank ownership due to foreclosure. Many of these properties contain household hazardous waste, which needs to be disposed of by property preservation contractors in accordance with federal, state and local guidelines. Often, these materials must be transported to dedicated facilities for special handling. Adding to this challenge is the fact that regulations for the handling of HHW can vary significantly from state to state and from municipality to municipality. This can represent a significant drag on the operational efficiency of property preservation crews faced with servicing large numbers of properties across a wide area. EPA-approved Eco>Absorb allows these hazards to be treated on the job site in a standardized manner and then safely disposed of as normal trash.

“As a property preservation contactor, we service a large number of new REO units every week in the greater southwest region,” said Ismael Escandon, president of Lil’ M Landscapes in Pflugerville, TX. For instance, some facilities no longer take paint. This variability is a big waste of time and money.
