Miso Sip™ is a modern approach to a traditional ancient food, and could revolutionize the coffee bar scene.
Asheville, NC (PRWEB) September 15, 2011
Great Eastern Sun Trading Company, Inc., the world’s largest manufacturer of organic miso, is introducing Miso Sip™ as a hot beverage alternative to coffee or tea at the Natural Products Expo East(booth 2523) September 22-24, 2011 in Baltimore, MD. In addition, Miso Sip™ will be served at the Organic Trade Association's annual meeting at the expo September 23 at 5 p.m. Miso is a fermented soy bean paste that is traditionally consumed in Japanese culture as a soup several times a day. As Miso Sip™ does not contain caffeine and can be served salty or sweet, it is the perfect year-round alternative for people who would like to have a hot drink, but do not want caffeine or do not like coffee or tea.
Coffee bars or restaurants looking for new concepts will be happy to learn that not only is Miso Sip™ tasty and nutritious, but it also has profit margins five to ten times higher than the margins of coffee or tea. In addition, it is easy to serve - baristas merely dispense pre-prepared Miso Sip™ into a cup, add hot water, and serve. Presto!
According to Leila Bakkum, Director of Sales at Great Eastern Sun, “Miso Sip™ is a modern approach to a traditional ancient food, and could revolutionize the coffee bar scene.”
Miso Sip™ will be served in the coffee/juice bar at the Earth Fare Westgate natural grocery store in Asheville, NC starting this fall in two flavors – Savory Red and Sweet White. Great Eastern Sun’s overall organic miso sales are up 14 percent over 2010 and they’ve been growing at that same rate over the last five years. This steady growth is evidence that miso is gaining popularity among U.S. consumers and they are now ready for Miso Sip™.
In addition to the steady sales over the years, Great Eastern Sun’s Miso Master® brand saw a 50 percent spike in sales in the second quarter of this year. The company is partially attributing this spike to the accident at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in March, 2011. Many miso consumers are aware that miso is a healing food to counteract the effect of radiation exposure. Animal survival in research studies showed significantly increased survival when miso was administered, especially long-term fermented miso.
Miso is known for many health benefits as well. For example, it contains high levels of isoflavones (powerful antioxidants) such as genistein. Indeed, miso has 25 times more genistein than unfermented soy products. This potent antioxidant protects cells from free radicals and aging. Additionally, miso is a live fermented food with lactobacillus culture and beneficial enzymes for digestion, naturally boosting the immune system.
Miso Sip™ is made with Miso Master® Organic Miso, which is domestically manufactured in western North Carolina. The Miso Master® brand was one of the first products to obtain organic certification in the United States (1995). Great Eastern Sun has had a commitment to organic foods for over 30 years and has been an Organic Trade Association member since 2000.
