New York/Toronto-based software maker to power innovative user-engagement feature.

Filemobile, Inc. (http://www.filemobile.com), one of North America’s leading developers of interactive online software, is proud to announce a new agreement to provide gamification services for CBC’s innovative Sports Day in Canada website and its “Game On” App.

Sports Day in Canada, airing Saturday, Sept. 17 at Noon ET on CBC Television, celebrates the importance of sports in Canadian culture from grassroots to high-performance levels. Sports Day is a celebration of sport, a tribute to those making a difference, and a shout-out to anyone who plays a game for the sheer joy of it.

Sports Day’s Media Factory-powered website (http://www.cbcsports.ca/sportsday) allows people from across the country to celebrate their favourite sporting activities—or even create fun, new events—then share them with friends via videos uploaded from their mobile device (with the help of the Sports Day mobile app) or home computers. The goal is to encourage others to participate, all of whom can comment and upload their own photos and videos.

As part of the new gamification element to the website, visitors will be awarded badges for commenting or uploading their own videos. A Sports Day Leaderboard will track the most active Canadians, and a “Game On Dream Team” of prize winners will be named on-air during the telecast. Viewers can then compete with friends, family or other gamers to earn the most recognition.

“We’re excited to provide technology that helps Canadians share and celebrate the very best in sports,” said Filemobile chief creative officer Steve Hulford. “The gamification feature adds a fun and engaging element to Sports Day.”

Gamification is a burgeoning new trend in online engagement and interactivity which adds a gaming element to websites, providing passive website visitors a reason to get involved in the action.

Gamifying the online experience helps companies—from major brands to broadcasters—encourage their customers or viewers to engage and interact with their content, boosting website traffic and brand loyalty. Filemobile is a leader in online engagement, providing user-generated content management tools to a number of major U.S. and Canadian media outlets including Fox News, CBC, CTV, Global TV, CP24 and The Weather Network.
