The summit, held on Sept. 15-16 at the Hyatt at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, is produced by Opal Financial Group.
“New relationships, new markets, new models: How to navigate the evolving and shifting landscape” is the theme for the summit. “The private equity conference is focused on the most effective strategies for investing in a variety of avenues,” Linda Mack explains. “Presenters include leaders from investment advisory firms, private equity funds and private equity advisors within institutions.”
The Private Equity Summit attracts attendees from public and corporate pension funds, family offices, insurance companies, funds of funds, endowments, foundations and sovereign wealth funds.
Linda Mack is the moderator for a session titled “Comparing and Contrasting the Developed Markets.” Panelists include: Renato Alessandro Iregui, principal of Raire Family Office; Jeffrey Balash, CEO of Comstock Advisors, LLC; and Sean Bill, trustee, City of San Jose Police and Fire Department Retirement Plan.
“The session will examine overall global strategy and growth sustainability and how to identify uncorrelated asset classes in these markets,” Linda Mack explains. “We will discuss where people feel the best global opportunities are in developed countries, and how investors are managing risk and currency exposure.
“Panelists will also discuss credit and political risk, as well as inflation hedges and how to place your bets,” she adds, “and we will compare the developed markets—the US vs. Western Europe, Canada and developed Asia—and explore middle-market funds.”
Keynote speaker Woodrow W. Clark II, MA, PhD, managing director of Clark Strategic Partners and 2007 co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, will present an address titled “The Next Economics.” Other keynote speakers include Steve Westly, managing partner of The Westly Group and former California state controller and chief fiscal officer, and Laurence L. Gottlieb, chairman and CEO of Fundamental Advisors, LP.
Summit sessions will discuss: the evolving limited partner/general partner relationship; a global perspective on the state of the private equity market in the US and abroad, in both developed and emerging markets; the secondary market; how general partners are differentiating themselves; where the promising investment growth opportunities are; real estate private equity; and the new investment climate in emerging and frontier markets.
There will also be sessions on: governmental regulation and how it affects institutions, funds, investments and markets, as well as investment vehicles, power dynamics and fees; best practices for mitigating and avoiding risk; comparing the developed markets; sustainable investments and the growing impact of environmental, social and corporate governance and responsibility; the changing venture model and venture capital market; creative financing and fundraising; and the point of view of limited partners and what they want to ask general partners.
