Lazarex is getting requests from all over the globe from runners that didn't expect the race to sell out so fast. Yes, if you are quick this licensed charity has a small amount of bibs left. Many participants plan their vacations around the #1 scenic marathon in the world.

You are invited to run or sponsor a runner in the 27th annual Big Sur International Marathon, April 29, 2012, on behalf of Lazarex Cancer Foundation. Join the Lazarex "Team for Life" and help raise funds for an organization that is dedicated to building a bridge to hope, dignity and life for end stage cancer patients and their families.

Every year, the Big Sur Marathon attracts about 4,500 participants. Created in 1986, it has been chosen by Runner's World magazine as one of the three best marathons in the world, as well as the nation's best "destination" marathon. Runners not only draw inspiration from 26.2 miles of spectacular views of one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, but also from the discipline required to conquer the hills of Highway One on the way to the finish line. The marathon features food and drink at the start and finish and live music along the course. There are also shuttle buses for transportation back from the finish line. And a unique ceramic medallion is available to every participant who finishes within the official time limit.

Lazarex Cancer Foundation is here to provide financial assistance to defray the costs associated with patient participation in FDA clinical trials. It also helps patients best determine and utilize their clinical trial options and provides community education and outreach services. Lazarex helps patients of all ages and walks of life facing all forms of cancer. It can provide resources to fill the gap between when cancer patients learn that there is no more hope and that no more options are available, and when they are truly done with their journey in life. Every year some 15,000 Americans are diagnosed with cancer. But modern clinical trials are assuring that many forms of cancer are no longer a death sentence. And Lazarex has itself had much success in giving scores of patients a much higher quality of life. The Big Sur Marathon is only one of numerous events in which Lazarex teams have participated throughout the United States to help the patients it serves. See Disneyland 1/2 marathon here

Lazarex Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded in 2006 by Dana Dornsife, who is also President of the organization. She became a cancer advocate when her brother-in-law Mike was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003 as she searched for options that would buy Mike and his family some additional time. Her dedication enabled Mike to live long enough so that his youngest daughter would have real memories of him, which she could keep throughout her life.

Entry fees can range from $135 to $165, depending upon how early one signs up, but runners who join Lazarex’s "Team for Life" will have their bib paid for.
