Waltham, MA (PRWEB) September 20, 2011
Today, Holcim (US) Inc. (http://www.holcim.us) announced the successful completion of its Second Annual Safety Month celebration, a company-wide initiative held in June which features activities aimed at raising safety awareness among approximately 1,800 employees, their families, contractors and customers.
Holcim kicked off Safety Month with a luncheon at its headquarters in Waltham, MA and a visit from Waltham Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy. Throughout the month, Holcim provided its employees with presentations and classes on workplace safety, health and wellness, safe driving and first aid. Safety Month highlights included several Customer Appreciation Days, a Blood Drive with the American Red Cross at the Birmingham, AL facility and Family Safety Days with kids’ activities and BBQ at locations across the United States.
“Workplace safety is a priority at Holcim,” said Bernard Terver, president and chief executive officer of Holcim (US). “Our employees are committed to safety, and Holcim continually strives to provide the necessary training to prevent workplace injuries or accidents. Safety Month is an annual opportunity to reinforce our commitment to workplace safety with all of our employees, and to share our commitment with the local communities.”
One of the highlights of Holcim’s Safety Month celebration is the Holcim (US) Annual Safety Calendar. Children and grandchildren of Holcim employees are encouraged to submit a drawing focused on safety. Twelve drawings are selected and used as the artwork for the calendar. The deadline for 2012 calendar submissions was August 31, 2011.
Earlier this year, two Holcim plants – Midlothian in Midlothian, TX and Devil’s Slide in Morgan, UT – received the Portland Cement Association’s (PCA) prestigious Chairman’s Safety Performance Award in recognition of their exceptional health and safety programs.
