Healthcare Education Strategies, Inc. Appoints New President and COO

Bricken McKenzie who has been with the company for two years will take over the post of president and COO.

Healthcare Education Strategies, Inc. (HES) has selected a new president & COO to run the company’s day-to-day operations. HES has named as President & COO, Richardson Bricken McKenzie, IV (Bricken), MBA, CMPE. He will take over day-to-day operations from acting President & COO Jean Ann Hartzell-Minzey. Hartzell-Minzey will continue in her role as CEO and chairman of the board to provide direction and leadership with focus on strategic training methodologies for ICD-10 and regulatory compliance. She will utilize her strong background in healthcare quality and reimbursement to implement programs for health systems and providers that will assist them in bridging quality with appropriate reimbursement.

The leadership transition will begin immediately. While working as a consultant with HES for the past two years, clients and colleagues have benefited from McKenzie’s knowledge, energy and professionalism.

McKenzie brings extensive industry experience as a leader and consultant with AdvisorsMD in Fairhope, AL (where he is President), Peak Performance Physicians in New Orleans and Infirmary Health System in Mobile, AL. McKenzie holds a Master’s degree in business administration from the University of Alabama. He has worked with clients to overcome many complex challenges including those resulting from Hurricane Katrina. Following Katrina, as Director of Physician Services, McKenzie worked with Hancock Medical Center in Bay St. Louis, MS. While living in a trailer and sleeping in the ICU he helped rebuild the hospital that was decimated by Hurricane Katrina. HES was founded in 1992 by Larry Minzey and Jean Ann Hartzell-Minzey to provide consultation and education to hospitals and physicians in the areas of HIM, charge capture/revenue cycle and case management.

HES has worked with approximately 750 clients throughout the United States, as well as many prominent state hospital associations including Louisiana and Mississippi.
