WSO2 CEO and CTO Will Lead One-Day Technical Workshop on September 27, 2011 to Help IT Professionals Optimize Their Private and Public Cloud Implementations

WSO2 delivers the only complete open source enterprise SOA middleware stack purpose-built as an integrated platform to support today’s heterogeneous enterprise environments—internally and in the cloud

The workshop is aimed at helping IT architects and developers to address two top cloud implementation issues: managing large stores of data in the cloud and deploying a PaaS.

The cloud presents a tremendous opportunity for enterprises to increase their agility and cost-effectively deliver new services to employees, customers and partners. However, evaluating, deploying and optimizing technologies in this nascent market can be confusing at best, and worst-case can lead to cloud implementations that are inflexible and unable to scale to meet changing demands. WSO2 will address these challenges in a technical workshop, “Open Cloud Platforms and Cloud Data,” which is being held in New York, NY on Tuesday, September 27.

Led by Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, WSO2 founder and CEO, and Paul Fremantle, WSO2 co-founder and CTO, the workshop is aimed at helping IT architects and developers to address two top cloud implementation issues: managing large stores of data in the cloud and deploying a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) using the WSO2 Stratos open source cloud platform. Open Cloud Platforms and Cloud Data
Sanjiva and Paul will begin the “Open Cloud Platforms and Cloud Data” workshop by examining how cloud platforms have emerged as the next wave of middleware, along with the functionality required to run scalable enterprise applications-as-a-service. They then will provide an understanding of how to effectively manage data in the cloud—with different scale, load and performance characteristics. Sanjiva and Paul also will discuss:
·     The characteristics of a PaaS and how it fits within a cloud deployment.
·     Key cloud concepts, including multi-tenancy, elasticity, billing, logging and metering.
·     Data characteristics, data architectures, and polyglot data models.
·     The use of MySQL within a PaaS and the issues around scaling relational storage for multiple tenants.
·     The roles of in-memory data and distributed cache.
·     How to achieve multi-tenant big data and high throughput with Apache Cassandra.
·     How to manage large-scale unstructured data with Apache HDFS and Hadoop.

The discussions will be supported by demonstrations of how to deploy a PaaS and manage data in the cloud using WSO2 Stratos, the award-winning 100% open source cloud middleware platform that enables developers to deploy their own PaaS, and WSO2 StratosLive, the public PaaS hosted by WSO2 and powered by the WSO2 Stratos software.

Workshop Presenters
Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana founded WSO2 after 8 years in IBM Research and almost 20 years building distributed systems. He also co-authored many SOA and WS-* standards and was the original creator of Apache SOAP. Paul Fremantle is the award-winning CTO of WSO2, current co-chair of the OASIS Web Services Reliable eXchange Technical Committee, and vice president of the Apache Synapse project. As elected members of the Apache Software Foundation, both Sanjiva and Paul contribute to many Apache projects.
