"A kit such as this dramatically enhances the situational awareness of warfighters with a minimal change in their weight load,” says Logan Harris, CEO.

SpotterRF has developed a 3.5 lb compact surveillance radar that is perfectly suited for backpack force protection kits. Designated M600C, this radar is the lightest and most efficient man-portable radar in the world. As proof of the radar’s versatility, SpotterRF has assembled an example force protection kit small enough to fit in a backpack that provides over 500 acres of 360º surveillance (seen here: spotterrf.com/backpack.html). “A kit such as this dramatically enhances the situational awareness of warfighters with a minimal change in their weight load,” says Logan Harris, CEO. To make this life-saving technology more readily available to warfighters, SpotterRF is freely providing a reference design of the example kit to the Department of Defense community.
The reference design for the backpack force protection kit includes a bill of materials for the kit and network hub (which provides connectivity for multiple radars and other support equipment), a wiring diagram, and examples of possible applications and uses. Those interested in this information are encouraged to visit: spotterrf.com/ref.html, where they can request a copy of the reference design.
The M600C and its use in a backpack-sized force protection kit came in response to a statement made earlier this year by Malcom O’Neill, former Army Chief of Acquisition, who pleaded for military contractors to shift focus from large platforms to small tactical teams and dismounted soldiers. (National Defense Magazine, April 2011). SpotterRF is committed to meeting the needs of small groups of warfighters and is excited by the advancements that the M600C represents for the defense community. The radar will be unveiled for public viewing at the Modern Day Marine Expo in Quantico, VA on September 27-29.
SpotterRF is a privately held company located in Orem, UT and is the industry leader in a new class of radar called Compact Surveillance Radar (CSR). To find out more about Spotter RF, please visit http://www.spotterrf.com.
