Leavenworth, Kansas (PRWEB) September 20, 2011
After conducting a nationwide search, Armed Forces Insurance (AFI) today announced that two new insurance executives have joined the organization’s leadership team: Michael Mattix, vice president of claims, and William Cody, chief actuary and chief risk officer.
“In addition to their many professional achievements, both Mike and Bill recognize the value of serving our nation’s military personnel. They’re highly energetic individuals who can effectively motivate their teams to provide a higher level of service for our members — we’re thrilled to have them on board,” said Kurt Seelbach, president and chief executive officer, AFI.
Mike Mattix, Vice President, Claims
Mattix brings more than 25 years of claims management experience to his new role leading the claims department at Armed Forces Insurance. His immediate goals include improving claims response and settlement times while effectively managing vendors involved in the claims process.
“Mike is a nationally recognized expert in claims management, process redesign and effecting change within organizations,” Seelbach said. “His leadership and knowledge of best practices will deliver a significantly enhanced claims experience for our members.”
For the bulk of his career, Mattix served in management positions of progressive responsibility for Employers Reinsurance Corporation (ERC, now Swiss Re America). Most recently, he was global manager of proportional auditing and claims consulting for Swiss Re. Prior to joining ERC, Mattix practiced insurance defense law in the Kansas City area.
Mattix is a graduate of the University of Kansas and Northwestern University School of Law. He also is a member of the Missouri Bar Association as well as a Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter.
Bill Cody, Chief Actuary/Vice President, Risk Management
With more than 25 years of actuarial and risk management experience, Cody will be responsible for developing and implementing more sophisticated rating plans and enhanced risk selection criteria and processes for AFI.
“Bill has extensive experience in personal lines ratemaking, including the use of multivariate techniques and tools. His skill set will be critical as we dramatically improve our rate sophistication to serve a broader range of members,” Seelbach said.
Cody spent more than 20 years at Nationwide Insurance Companies, where he worked his way into upper management in his role as assistant vice president of loss reserving, a position he held for six years. He also has served as a claims actuary for Hartford Insurance Group.
Cody holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Va. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
