Glu is not only a tool, but movement, and initiative on a scale that has never been attempted before in the US that starts with the patient and ends with the patient to influence all facets our of care delivery system.
The T1D Exchange, a non-profit organization, developed Glu, an innovative and purpose driven platform to engage people impacted by Type 1 Diabetes. Glu leverages the power of the internet to engage Type 1s to create, organize and be involved in all areas of their healthcare delivery – most importantly research and innovation.
The Exchange today consists of 67 academic medical centers across the US and 17,000 patients (and growing) with a team of top endocrinologists, epidemiologists and experts dedicated to the mission.
David Panzirer, the grandson of Leona Helmsley, conceived this initiative two years ago when Type 1 Diabetes impacted his daughter. Leona Helmsley and her husband Harry set up a charitable trust out of New York City, a fund that has given more than $85 Million to the research of Type 1 Diabetes. The Exchange is funded by this trust and executed by Dana Ball, leader in healthcare philanthropy and Marie Schiller, partner at Health Advances and a Type 1.
The Health 2.0 conference is the chosen forum for the hottest health IT technology launches and is attended by established companies to preview the latest innovations improving patient care and scout new talent. Software developers, physicians, start-up companies, global corporations, HIT vendors, payers, providers, and health care leaders gather each year to ensure they are the first to see new, innovative health technologies before they are introduced to the rest of the world.
Mr. Joshi’s speech at the Health 2.0 Conference will examine how T1D Exchange will improve care management and outcomes of those affected by Type 1, while increasing the effectiveness and accuracy of R&D on new therapeutics and technologies. The Exchange is designed to bring together patients, clinicians, the industry and researchers to improve overall management and understanding of type 1diabetes.
Janak Mr. Joshi will be explaining how using Glu is truly meaningful to you, providing hands-on opportunity to participate in research which can be controlled by the members as well as managing privacy in a way that has not been thought of before.
