Online photographic history receives top web development honors.

"We've always known that its potential for growth is unlimited, but this honor speaks volumes about the degree to which it can succeed."

In its 15th annual WebAward competition the Web Marketing Association has honored Enlighten's WhatWasThere (http://www.whatwasthere.com) with an Outstanding Achievement in Web Development award. The historical photograph site, which uses a combination of crowdsourcing and Google Street View to create interactive maps showing streets and landmarks as they appeared in the past, was designed and developed by Enlighten Ventures, a sister company of award-winning Ann Arbor, MI-based digital agency Enlighten.

WhatWasThere was granted the Outstanding Website honor in the Non-Profit category after receiving an overall score that was "above and beyond the standard of excellence." In addition to earning a perfect score of 10.0 in Innovation, the site was granted a near perfect score of 9.5 in Design, Content, Technology, and Ease of Use. In addition to its high score, the site also garnered numerous glowing comments from the WebAward's prestigious international panel of judges, which is comprised of experts in business, marketing and advertising.

"Our goal in creating WhatWasThere was to collectively build the largest database of geographically placed historic photos through an engaging crowdsourced platform,” says Steve Glauberman, founder and CEO of Enlighten. "We've always known that its potential for growth is unlimited, but this honor speaks volumes about the degree to which it can succeed."

For four years running Enlighten has received top WebAward honors for its diverse digital work. Past awards include Best Consumer Goods Website for the John Frieda® Product Advisor and the Ban® brand antiperspirant and deodorant site; Outstanding Website for HunterDouglas.com, John Frieda® Luxurious Volume and Masco Home Services Inc.'s Environments for Living®; and a Consumer Goods Standard of Excellence for Curél® Skincare.
