Alpine Urology Exchanging Data with Boulder Community Hospital through CORHIO Health Information Exchange; Project Includes Partnerships with Medicity and State REC

We are very pleased that Alpine Urology is succeeding in its goals with PrimeSUITE

Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc. and the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO) today announced that Greenway physician practice Alpine Urology has become the first physician office in Colorado to connect to CORHIO’s statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE).

Alpine Urology, a four-provider specialty practice with locations in Boulder, Louisville and Longmont, implemented Greenway’s electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solution PrimeSUITE® 2011 last year with the intent of advancing data exchange and care coordination through CORHIO’s HIE.

“We selected PrimeSUITE for its integration of clinical, financial and administrative functions, and for its ability to exchange data with any number of healthcare institutions, HIEs and hospital systems,” said Practice Administrator Bill Carlton.

The CORHIO HIE infrastructure is built using technology from Medicity, also a Greenway partner. Boulder Community Hospital is already connected to the CORHIO HIE and previously endorsed Greenway solutions to its affiliated physician practice clinics, which has also resulted in the selection of PrimeSUITE by hospital clinics.

In addition to its role as the state-designated entity for HIE, CORHIO manages Colorado’s statewide Regional Extension Center initiative, CO-REC. In January of 2011, CO-REC selected PrimeSUITE as one of its approved EHR integration solutions. The approved list helps guide Colorado physician practices toward reliable EHR purchases, not only for the 2,295 healthcare providers targeted for EHR adoption by the REC, but for all physicians across the state who have not yet implemented an EHR.

For Alpine Urology, the combined advancements of care coordination has led to immediate benefits. “The HIE helps us provide efficient, high-quality care by producing secure and accurate patient data,” added Carlton. “We send 90 percent of our labs to Boulder Community Hospital. By sharing information electronically, it eliminates the need to manually scan labs into our system, which saves our practice a lot of time, paper and manpower.

The CORHIO HIE provides access to patient information such as lab tests, pathology results, x-ray, MRI and transaction reports, and will be adding functionality to include the exchange of medication lists, allergies and immunizations among other data, according to CORHIO’s Director of Development and Outreach, Janice Whittleton.

“Greenway has been extraordinarily collaborative as we worked together, along with Medicity, to connect Alpine Urology to the CORHIO HIE,” said Phyllis Albritton, executive director of CORHIO. “Greenway’s PrimeSUITE EHR, as well as their underlying technology infrastructure, has helped the implementation go smoothly for all organizations involved.”

“It is well understood by this progressive collaboration that data liquidity and care coordination are keys to better patient outcomes and a more sustainable healthcare system,” said Greenway® President and CEO Tee Green. “We are very pleased that Alpine Urology is succeeding in its goals with PrimeSUITE, and that the CORHIO HIE and all of the partnerships within it are underway. This is a great day for healthcare delivery advancement and one of many more to come.”
