Quinceanera dolls have arrived at the House of Brides Quinceanera Boutique in Glen Ellyn. The dolls are about 2 feet tall with a porcelain face and hands, dressed in elaborate gowns with beading. The bottom half of the doll is a parasol hidden under the ball gown skirt. The gowns come in an array of colors and have tiaras and purses to match the birthday girl’s gown or to coordinate with the party.
A Quinceanera is a celebration of a girl’s 15th birthday in the Latin culture. A Quince marks a girl’s transition from childhood to womanhood. The average cost of a Quinceanera in the U.S. is $25,000.
Quinceaneras have many traditions marking the transition of childhood to adulthood. One tradition includes the ritual of the last doll, “La Ultima Muneca”. The ritual is based on a Mayan tradition and represents the last childhood toy a girl will receive, as she is now closer to adult life. The doll is often presented at the party before dinner.
The Quinceanera Boutique is the 10th House of Brides location. The boutique is a full-service store offering apparel and products specially designed for the Quinceanera. Buyers researched the Quince celebration and its traditions. Their research assisted in their merchandise selections to feature the most popular accessories and products including the Quinceanera doll. President Eva Buziecki states, "It is important to understand the Quince tradition in deciding what our customers will want."
The boutique also features gowns for Debutante and Sweet Sixteen events.
The Quinceanera Boutique is open 7 days a week. The boutique is located at 1184 Roosevelt Road, 4 doors west of House of Brides in Glen Ellyn. Visit http://www.houseofbrides.com/TourOurStores.aspx for directions and hours.
