A.G. Williams Painting Company donates and coordinates “Home in Need” paint job.

Greenwich resident Sergeant Roger Petrone dedicated his career to making a difference in his community, first as a fire department dispatcher and then by serving 17 years in the Greenwich Police Department. On 9/11, Sergeant Petrone volunteered to take the Greenwich police boat to New York Harbor and help patrol the waterways that day and into the night. A.G. Williams Painting Company, a recognized leader in the residential and commercial painting industry in Westchester and Fairfield Counties, recently acknowledged Sergeant Petrone’s long-term contributions by naming him as its first “Home in Need” recipient of a free paint job this month (retail value $15,000.00).

In a tragic turn of events five years ago, Sergeant Petrone was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS), a progressive neuromuscular disease that causes muscle weakness and eventual paralysis. The entire community has stepped up to help Sergeant Petrone and support ALS research with fundraisers such as 300-mile bike rides, softball games, and family walks. Sergeant Petrone also receives assistance from the Greenwich Police Department and Greenwich Military Covenant of Care. In conjunction with the “Home in Need” award, A. G. Williams is working with representatives of the police department and Covenant of Care to renovate Sergeant Petrone’s home. A.G. Williams donated the crew and equipment for an interior painting of the entire first floor, including the kitchen, hallways, and den, of the two-bedroom, two-bathroom farm house. The A.G. Williams crew also is powerwashing the home’s exterior and painting the barn of the 1800s working farm. Paint was provided by Ring’s End (http://www.ringsend.com), a New Canaan, CT, lumber, millwork, and building supply company, and by Benjamin Moore & Co. (http://www.benjaminmoore.com). The doors for the barn will be donated by Ed’s Garage Doors (http://www.edsgaragedoors.com) of Norwalk, CT.

“We are grateful for the generous donation from A.G. Williams and for helping to make this home renovation project even more special,” says Mary Jane Huffman, co-founder of Greenwich Military Covenant of Care and Board Vice President. “Sergeant Petrone is a highly deserving recipient of the “Home in Need” Award.”

A.G. Williams recently completed the first phase of the project, the painting of the bedroom of Sergeant Petrone’s daughter on the occasion of her 9th birthday. The remainder of the project will be completed this fall.

“The goal of the “Home in Need” award is to recognize a homeowner who has dedicated his or her time to the welfare and safety of others despite increasingly difficult economic times,” says Paul Viggiano, Director of Business Administration and Marketing. “We are honored to acknowledge Sergeant Petrone’s significant contributions to the residents of Greenwich.”

“A.G. Williams is proud to honor Sergeant Roger Petrone with its first “Home in Need” award, recognizing his years of service in Greenwich, says Doug Kitchen, CT Account Representative. “I am deeply moved by Sergeant Petrone’s dedication and commitment to the community in the face of significant personal challenges.”
