Dotomi, Inc., of Chicago has been selected as one of the 75 finalists for the 2011 Chicago Innovation Awards because of its innovation as a secondary AMBER Alert distributor. The ten winners will be announced Tuesday, November 8th and celebrated at an event at Chicago’s Harris Theater that evening.

The Chicago Innovation Awards, celebrating its 10th year, is the Chicago region’s foremost recognition of the most innovative new products or services brought to market or to public service each year. There were more than 400 nominees for the 2011 Chicago Innovation Awards, representing an increase of more than 60 percent over the past two years.

Working with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as a secondary AMBER Alert distributor, Dotomi interrupts online banner advertising to individuals who are on Internet devices in the area of a child abduction and replaces it with AMBER Alerts. Dotomi’s efforts as a secondary AMBER Alert distributor provide law enforcement with an additional means to immediately galvanize the public in the most serious child abduction cases. When Dotomi is notified that an AMBER Alert has been issued it immediately displays relevant information in place of a banner advertisement, such as child and suspect photos and abduction details, in the geo-targeted area, through its publisher networks. Individuals who receive the AMBER Alert can then report any information they may have about the case to law enforcement. To date Dotomi has distributed 67 AMBER Alerts that delivered over 23 million messages to approximately 4 million individual devices.

Jason J. Bier, Chief Privacy Officer and In-House Counsel at Dotomi says that “Dotomi is centered on using its technology to provide a more relevant online experience for people, and by working with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children for AMBER Alert we continue to be on the right track. We are now providing a tool to help find and safely recover an abducted child.”

Each year ten winners are chosen from among the 75 finalists by a panel of judges reflecting a cross section of Chicago’s business community. In addition, Dotomi is in the running for the annual “People’s Choice Award,” selected through online balloting at http://www.chicagoinnovationawards.com/voting. Dotomi would like to encourage votes for the AMBER Alert Distribution in order to continue to raise awareness, which is a key strategy to deterring child abduction.
