Star Radio shines for North East families

Star Radio has propelled itself into the hearts and minds of North East residents following an industry-first campaign aimed at listeners and their families.

I simply wanted to show our listeners that we as a radio station care about their views. As a result, we have made ourselves a popular choice for the North East as they know we really listen!

Following the success of its online half-price voucher shop, which has saved listeners over £100,000 in the last five months, Darlington-based Star Radio has launched the biggest voucher promotion of them all, with £76,000 worth of Flamingo Land vouchers being sold at half price.

The campaign has been set up amid listener demands for more Flamingo Land vouchers and at a time when budget is the key concern of most families.

Breakfast show presenter Tom Davies – the face of the campaign – decided to acquire the vouchers so that as many people in the North East as possible can enjoy one of the most popular half-price days out. As a result of his efforts, Star Radio has earned itself the reputation for delivering results to its listeners.

Tom said: “This campaign has been a rewarding experience in many ways.

“I simply wanted to show our listeners that we as a radio station care about their views. As a result, we have made ourselves a popular choice for the North East as listeners know that they can give us their feedback and we will listen to them and do what we can for them.”

Star Radio’s programme controller James Horspool is equally happy with the way the campaign is going so far. He said:

“Tom Davies started on the breakfast show in May this year with an agenda to look after the people of our area, entertain them, celebrate their victories and try to make life easier for them every day – and he is doing just that with this campaign.

“There are now lots of conversations taking place online, all centred around Tom Davies and Star Radio bringing families the key money-saving deal of the year.

“This campaign is also an industry first in the way that Flamingo Land has to all intents and purposes taken over a radio station in the North East of England for such a long period of time. This could be the start of some very special new ways in which the commercial industry can evolve out of the gloom of shrinking advertising markets. And it all started at Star Radio!”

Star isn’t stopping there, however. The station now plans to give its listeners something a bit different, beginning with an authentic American drive-in-movie.

James said: “There will be a big screen with a classic movie or family film, and everyone sits in their cars, tuning in to hear the soundtrack. Girls on skates will be giving out popcorn and the Star team will be providing entertainment before the movie begins.”
