The Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation’s Board of Directors today appointed Gwen S. McCall President and CEO of the EDC. Ms. McCall had served as Interim President and CEO since March 2011.
“Gwen has exhibited strong and dynamic leadership over the past few months,” said Board Chairman Jason Groves. “As a result, all board members present voted unanimously in support of her as the new President and CEO.”
McCall had previously served as County Executive Rushern Baker’s Chief of Staff. Baker tapped McCall to head the Economic Development Corporation, citing economic development as one of the major initiatives of his Administration. Baker has proposed a $50 million Economic Development Incentive Fund to help grow the County’s economic base, and says the EDC will have a significant role in the administration of the EDI Fund by identifying businesses and prospects that may benefit from the fund.
McCall has extensive experience in government and the private sector. Before joining the Baker Administration, she served as Operations Manager in the Office of Planning for the District of Columbia.
“Ms. McCall is a highly regarded and seasoned executive who brings valuable skills and experience from both the public and private sectors,” said County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, in a statement to the Board. “She shares our vision for Prince George’s County’s economic vitality and has our full confidence as the leader of this most important organization.”
