Charter Oak State College Hosts Annual Shea Lecture and Fundraising Reception

"Eyewitness Testimony: Fact or Fiction" lecture is free and open to the public.

Charter Oak State College, Connecticut’s public online college for adults completing bachelor’s degrees, will host its annual Shea Lecture and Fundraising Reception on October 27. The lecture, titled “Eyewitness Testimony: Fact or Fiction?” will take place at 5:30 p.m. at The Hartford Tower Auditorium, 22nd Floor, 1 Hartford Plaza, Hartford. The reception, hosted by The Charter Oak State College Foundation, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the same location. Proceeds from the reception will be used to fund scholarships, including the Sgt. George R. Dingwall Scholarship, established in memory of a Charter Oak graduate who lost his life in the line of duty as a law enforcement officer in Middletown, CT.

The Shea Lecture will feature Dr. Jennifer Dysart, Associate Professor of Psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Panelists include New Haven Chief of Police Frank Limon, Hartford Chief of Police and Charter Oak alum Daryl K. Roberts and Bridgeport Chief of Police Joseph Gaudett. Retired Branford Chief of Police and Charter Oak alum John DeCarlo, Ph.D., will moderate. The lecture is free and open to the public. Members of the public safety community and those interested in becoming members in particular are encouraged to attend to hear and learn from this discussion of a widely discussed and debated topic – the reliability of eyewitness testimony.

Charter Oak State College offers a premier bachelor’s degree completion program in public safety administration. Ten Connecticut chiefs of police are Charter Oak alums, having earned their bachelor’s degrees through this program.

Hartford Chief of Police Daryl K. Roberts will receive the Charter Oak State College Foundation Innovation Award at the reception.
