Last week a beautiful view lot closed in the La Tierra area north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Alan Hoffman of the Natural Homes Team of Keller Williams Realty helped a couple from Berkley California acquire the lot and design a 2,000 sq ft healthy home complete with all the equipment needed to provide a net annual energy costs of around "0". The engineering and equipment to achieve zero energy operations were perfected with the support of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and thanks to this successful legislation, this home can now be delivered at around the same price as a conventional house. The equipment used to achieve Zero Energy operation includes Passive Solar design, Solar Electric panels, whole house heat exchanging ventilator and modulating, condensing boiler with in floor radiant heat.

Renaissance Builders has built other Zero Energy and highly efficient Solar Homes in the Santa Fe area proving that they can be built at a cost a working family can afford. This base model with two bedrooms, two baths features tall ceilings with vigas, solid wood doors and masonry floors and can be delivered for $339,000 on many lots available in and around Santa Fe. This home also includes State and Federal tax credits totaling around $20,000, thanks again to ARRA.
