Made for novices, new Web tool from WestHost lets you drag and drop websites into place

Our goal is to help more businesses by giving them a solution to their concerns about going online

Nancy Smith, an entrepreneur from Leesburg, Va., found that the high cost of building a business website she had no control over was ultimately the reason her company failed. Utah-based WestHost now has a tool to help business owners like Smith.

Smith said she spent a lot for a site she “couldn’t go in and make any changes to.”

Many small companies run into similar problems as they face high price tags and limited control with Web design. WestHost, a global leader in Web hosting services, has responded to this dilemma by creating an economical do-it-yourself online website builder called DropClick.

DropClick is designed to help those with no coding or Web developing experience build their own website.

“These people are running businesses. They don’t have time to learn Web design, but they do have time to walk through simple steps to select how they want their site to look,” said Jake Neeley, brand manager at WestHost.

Whether a business wants a simple shopping cart, social feeds, or image gallery, simply drag it in, Neeley explained.

Smith found building her website to be frustrating because she was limited by what her designer built.

“It was hard…because I couldn’t go in and make any changes,” she said.

Neeley said it was frustrations like Smith’s that motivated his web hosting company to create the online website builder. They wanted any company to be able to create a website.

When DropClick was explained to Smith, she said she was disappointed that she did not have a tool like that a couple years ago when she paid to have someone build her site.

“It is fantastic that this service puts the Web design in the hands of the people that are doing it, especially for people who don’t know the back-end code,” Smith said.

Because DropClick provides control over the design, the tool costs much less than paying a designer to create the site, Neeley explained.

“We’ve seen so many small companies hurt by the high price of Web design and figured we could do something about it,” said Neeley. “DropClick is the best website builder because companies don’t have to worry about high costs or difficult communication; the site design is done by the client.”

As the Internet has grown society has turned to websites to find information. Companies find the need to build a website imperative, yet are often stymied by the lack of resources available to them. The evolution of Web design is explained by WestHost's new infographic.

“We want businesses to succeed. Web design doesn’t have to be a drag,” Neeley said. “Our goal is to help more businesses by giving them a solution to their concerns about going online.”
