New York City, NY (PRWEB) September 26, 2011
"Live Without Limits" is a new, philanthropic project whose mission is to make athletic fundraising events for MS all-inclusive, giving people with multiple sclerosis a chance to participate in walks, runs, bike rides, etc. that help to raise money for MS support services, educational programs and research initiatives; while at the same time helping to empower those living with MS.
The goal of Live Without Limits is to establish a fleet of MS-friendly recumbent tricycles (used or new) through individual and corporate donations and sponsorships, with plans to partner with an established local bike-rental vendor to store and maintain the tricycles. The project aims to create a sustainable business model for the vendor who will, in addition to making the fleet available for fundraising rides in the New York tri-state area, be able to rent the fleet commercially outside of these events.
Other models could be developed for various MS fundraising events, such as shorter courses for Walk MS – in the hopes of eventually inspiring additional organizations across the country that this model could benefit other disabilities as well.
Although the New York City - Southern New York Chapter of the National MS Society has expressed interest and enthusiasm for this concept, it is not currently in a position to undertake execution of the project or to purchase its own bikes; therefore, this grassroots project was initiated.
Those interested in getting involved in the Live Without Limits project can help in several ways: by joining the team Live Without Limits (sponsored by Patagonia Fitness http://patagoniafitness.com ) (http://bikenyn.nationalmssociety.org/site/PageServer?pagename=BIKE_NYN_Bike_Rentals), and riding in Bike MS NYC on Sunday, October 2 (which starts and finishes at Pier 94), by providing corporate sponsorships, by donating tricycles, by volunteering their skills or resources, and by simply spreading the word about Live Without Limits.
