The co-founders of Seattle-based technology startup, ZionEyez, have been nominated for a prestigious international award for developing glasses embedded with a high-definition 720p camera that shares video in real-time over social networks.

Brent Burroff and Evan Lindquist of Seattle are finalists for the 2011 World Technology Awards in the IT-Hardware category. The awards are presented in association with TIME, Fortune, CNN, Technology Review, and Science. Winners will be announced Oct. 26 at the World Technology Summit’s black-tie gala awards ceremony at the United Nations in New York City.

Live-streaming video to social networks is the next revolution in the popular explosion of social media. Video broadcasted to social networking sites will compete against text messages shared on platforms like Twitter. Text updates will soon be a thing of the past, eclipsed by video as social networking rapidly expands and evolves with new technology and applications.

Jack Dorsey, founder of Twitter, is one of the six individuals chosen as finalists along with Burroff and Lindquist, who were nominated as a team. The World Technology Award is an honor presented annually since 2000 to those individuals and corporations deemed to be doing "innovative work of the greatest likely long-term significance" in 20 different categories in science and technology.

“We are honored to be nominated,” says Burroff. “We are proud to be on the front line of technological evolution. Our device is going to change some of the major social networking sites that exist now.”

“Eyez™ gives people the ability to share the world as they see it in real time, from a truly first person perspective, without compromising convenience or style,” Lindquist says.

Eyez™ will record continuously for two to three hours on a full battery charge.

Eyez™, which can be fitted with prescription and clear lenses, embeds a 720p HD video camera and high quality microphone for recording audio and video.

The recorded data can be wirelessly broadcasted in real time to your favorite social networking site via the Eyez™ smartphone/tablet App. The Wifi 802.11n / Bluetooth v 3.0 enabled App also allows users to effortlessly edit the video and share it on social networks. The video can also be stored on the 8GB flash memory and transferred via micro USB to a computer.

Currently Eyez™ are exclusively sold on http://www.zioneyez.com. Orders placed before Nov. 1, 2011, receive a $50 discount from the $199.99 MSRP.
