"We are thrilled to win the Sloan Award again this year but the real reward for me personally would be to see other companies exploring how T.I.M.E. could work for them”

Jmichaele Keller, President and CEO of MeetingMatrix

MeetingMatrix International, Inc. of Portsmouth, NH was announced as a winner of the 2011 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplaces Flexibility. The Sloan Award honors businesses that have made commitments to workplace effectiveness and flexibility to enhance organizational and employee success. This is the second consecutive year that MeetingMatrix has won the award.

“We are pleased with this year’s Sloan Award,” said Jmichaele Keller, President and CEO of MeetingMatrix. “January 1st, 2009, we implemented Task Inspired Management Environment (T.I.M.E.) as a workplace philosophy and set of guidelines. In the context of the Sloan Award, we are an ideal model of workplace flexibility.”

“With T.I.M.E., work isn’t a place we go, it’s something we do. There is no concept of vacation or personal time. We can work wherever we want, whenever we want, in whatever style we want, as long as we meet our objectives and both internal and external customers are always taken care of.”

“I think we took some risks with this approach, but in terms of productivity and reduction of employee stress, it has been quite successful. It also gives a platform that lets us explore additional innovations in the work environment.”

“For example, this year we explored ideas and concepts inspired by Zappos and by Dave Logan and John King’s Tribal Leadership as models for individual and corporate behavior. With the help of CultureSync and the newly formed Culture Studio, we began integrating some of these progressive concepts. As part of what Culture Studio coined our “Cultural Re=Evolution”, we collectively identified the core values that define our culture.”

MeetingMatrix Core Values:

1. Embrace constant and never-ending change
2. Practice open, honest, and transparent communication
3. Show compassion and treat everyone with respect
4. Be creative and live passionately
5. Always seek opportunities to exceed expectations
6. Create value by living T.I.M.E.
7. Pursue excellence & never settle for mediocrity
8. Create meaningful relationships
9. Express yourself. Have fun and laugh a lot
10. Seek knowledge and create your own opportunities
11. See the best in everyone you meet
12. Promote teamwork and trust each other

The MeetingMatrix Cultural Re=Evolution is an ongoing cultural change. It is more a movement than a template, and is driven by all associates in the company and has no defined timelines or classic business “in the box” objectives. “Our positive experience with T.I.M.E. made acceptance of this on-going cultural change somewhat easier. It made what could have been a radical change seem relatively simple. When everyone trusts their peers, change is rewarding,” concluded Jmîchaeĺe Keller.

The Alfred P. Sloan Awards are awarded based upon rigorous criteria and are presented nationally by the When Work Works initiative, an effort of the Families and Work Institute, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Twiga Foundation, Inc. Winners of the award rank in the top 20% of employers nationwide in workplace flexibility.
