Leading Women of Italian Wine Unite for a Worthy Cause at American Cancer Society Fundraiser October 19, 2011 in New York City.

Vinitaly, the Ambassador of Italian wines, announced today it will be honoring six renowned Italian women wine producers during its second consumer wine tasting fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society on Wednesday evening, October 19, 2011 at New York City’s Metropolitan Pavilion. The 2010 event raised $40,000 for the American Cancer Society.

These six leading Women of Italian Wine represent prestigious wineries from various regions throughout Italy:

*Marilisa Allegrini, Allegrini (Veneto)
*Cristina Mariani-May, Castello Banfi (Tuscany)
*Elisabetta Geppetti, Fattoria Le Pupille (Tuscany)
*Camilla Lunelli, Ferrari (Trentino)
*Francesca Planeta, Planeta (Sicily)
*Daniela Mastroberardino, Terradora (Campania)

Allegrini and Castello Banfi also participated in the 2010 inaugural fundraiser.

“Our goal is simple: to unite the influential women who are leaders and tastemakers in this industry for a great cause,” said Stevie Kim, General Coordinator of Vinitaly International and Senior Advisor to Giovanni Mantovani, CEO of Veronafiere. “These women are not only innovative and each uniquely talented, but they possess a special insight and concern for other women.” Studies show that women make the majority of wine buying decisions in the United States.¹

Kim was not surprised when each of these producers accepted the invitation to share their selection of wines for a great cause alongside other prominent women in the wine industry. “It was easy to unite these women. Each of them said ‘yes’ without hesitation. This commitment is based on friendship and a network of mutual support.”

Kris Kim, COO of the American Cancer Society, concurs. "We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Vinitaly in the World this year, in the company of such accomplished women. We are seeing great demand for tickets to this event, which is a testament not only to the quality of the exceptional wines of these talented producers but also to the depth of their kindness and commitment to our causes of helping people stay well and get well, finding cures and fighting back."

Vinitaly is the largest wine fair in the world with over 4,000 participating producers. Vinitaly also sees includes education in its mission. A component of the Vinitaly World Tour is to help Italian wine producers learn about the markets they visit. During the 2011 tour, Vinitaly will educate producers about the US market while sharing the latest developments in the world of Italian wine with press, importers, distributors, retailers, restaurateurs and sommeliers in the United States.
