Huguette May and The BIG Scan collaborated to scan and print limited editions of Huguett's large, 48" x 60" charcoal drawings.

“…there’s huge respect for the artwork, as well as the artist. We artists don’t get that, all that much, out there in the world...The level of care, attention to detail, and that you’re so committed and, it’s clear that you love to work with artists."

Artist Huguette May speaks about her work, her inspirations, and her collaboration limited edition digital printing at The BIG Scan.

“Once I made the decision to commit all of my work to drawing, it was easy after that. I decided to sort of “de-clutter” my life. There was the simplicity of it… and that’s, essentially how drawing in charcoal, and then drawing in large format came to my life. I’ve been with that since, and I have no plans to change…”

Huguette May’s work is intensely detailed, inspired and influenced by metaphor, and clearly informed by her considerable experience in Photography, Photoshop and even the early tools of digital imaging. Each work is larger than life, her renderings often reach up to 48 inches wide and over 60” high. Each one is a unique piece, but she wants to make limited editions available of smaller prints, up to full, original sized prints that are faithful to the original. The relationship and eventual collaboration with The BIG Scan was a natural fit.

Coming from a varied, but strong technical background May has been painfully aware of the limitations of early digital reproduction. She is informed, demanding to the highest standards, and, until partnering with The BIG Scan for capturing her work with the Cruse Synchron system and partnering with affiliate Parrot Digigraphic, Ltd for her printmaking, she had been disappointed and frustrated with the results of other services.

The BIG Scan uses the Cruse Synchron system to provide one-pass high resolution capture of May’s original renderings. The talents of the printmakers at Parrot Digigraphic are then brought to bear on creating reproductions almost indistinguishable from the original on Parrot’s own Angelica Fine Art Watercolor media. Technically, the prints are the finest and most faithful reproductions possible, overseen and approved by the artist.

More so, she speaks to the delicate, and respectful relationship between artist and printmaker- a time-honored and intensely personal working collaboration.

“…there’s huge respect for the artwork, as well as the artist. We artists don’t get that, all that much, out there in the world. I really respond to that. The level of care, attention to detail, and that you’re so committed and, it’s clear that you love to work with artists. We’re not the easiest people to work with all the time… I feel like I’m understood here and my needs are heard.”

Huguette May’s work and CV can be seen at http://www.huguettemay.com, and at various shows and exhibits in the New England area. Some of her work appears regularly at the Navio Artisans Collective Gallery, and the New Bedford Art Museum in New Bedford, MA. She has shown at Tufts University, the Museum of Fine Arts and other respected venues around the Northeast.
