Technology Leaders Add New Functionality to Open Source Lecture Capture Platform

Entwine, a provider of custom lecture capture solutions and NCast, provider of industry-leading solutions for capturing, distributing and archiving high-resolution, mixed media content have partnered to improve and enrich Opencast Matterhorn, an open-source, lecture-capture platform.

Because the rate of change for technology is increasing exponentially, it’s nearly impossible for educational institutions to keep up with the growing demands and expectations of students. Combine these demands with the complexity of integrating new technologies, standards, and distribution channels, and many institutions find themselves missing major opportunities to take advantage of modern solutions that will enable and enhance learning and teaching experiences.

To address these challenges, Entwine and NCast strive to build better, more accessible, open standards-based educational technology platforms like Opencast Matterhorn. Both organizations are dedicated to improving student outcomes through better technology systems. Opencast Matterhorn empowers institutions to provide valuable learning experiences while tackling some of the customary challenges–interoperability, security and vendor lock-in–that may arise with a proprietary lecture capture solution. “NCast is funding initiatives for key features in Matterhorn and will continue to invest in its future,” said Jeanne Schmitt, NCast’s VP Marketing and Co-Founder.

Andy Wasklewicz, CEO and Co-Founder of Entwine, emphasizes, “We are excited to be working with NCast on such a critical feature for Matterhorn and we know that the community will benefit greatly. We believe this type of partnership is critical to the growth and adoption of Matterhorn. I hope others follow NCast’s lead and partner with Entwine to engineer and contribute to the growing Opencast ecosystem.”

Entwine Matterhorn engineers have designed a new feature, “Episode Service”, which enables system administers to easily re-track, re-publish, edit or delete lectures that have already been published and distributed. “It acts like an archive, a critical piece that has been missing from the Matterhorn platform,” notes Entwine’s CTO and Co-Founder Tobias Wunden.

“NCast has long been a supporter of the Opencast Matterhorn community, and we were the first encoder company to embrace the open source paradigm in our products and our workflow,” adds Dr. Hank Magnuski, NCast CEO and Co-Founder. “In Entwine, we have found an innovative and dynamic partner, and we look forward to enhancing Matterhorn together.
